We are pleased to announce our second lecturer: Assoc. Prof. Mirjana Bjeloš, MD, PhD

Assoc. Prof. Mirjana Bjeloš, a specialist in ophthalmology, subspecialist in pediatric ophthalmology and strabology, was born in Zagreb, where she completed the School of Medicine and received her PhD. In 2019, she became the director of the Collaborative Center of the World Health Organization for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. She is the leader of a multidisciplinary team for the application of gene therapy at the Certified Center of the Department of Ophthalmology at the University Hospital "Sveti Duh", which in July 2020 became the sixth centre for gene therapy in ophthalmology in the world. In her lecture, she will present voretigene neparvovec-rzyl treatment for RPE65 mutation-associated inherited retinal dystrophy. This is the first approved gene therapy for hereditary genetic disease and the first and only pharmacologic treatment for an IRD.
