Dear future participants,

 

we are very excited to present you with “21st century medicine - challenges and goals” - a panel discussion that will be taking place at this year’s CROSS! 

 

This panel discussion will bring together the greatest experts in their fields of medicine, including professor Davor Miličić, MD, PhD, FESC, FACC, HAZU, professor Bojan Jelaković, MD, PhD, HAZU, professor Marijana Braš, MD, PhD and moderator of the discussion, professor Vida Demarin, MD, PhD, FAAN, FAHA, FESO, FEAN, FWSO, HAZU. 

 

Professor Davor Miličić received his PhD from the University of Zagreb in 1990. In 1993, he received a National Board Certificate in Internal medicine and in 2000 in Cardiology. During 1995/96, he was educated at the Cardiology Department of the University Hospital Eppendorf in Hamburg. In 2009, he became a Full Professor of Internal Medicine and Cardiology at the School of Medicine, University of Zagreb. He also served as a Dean in two mandates, from 2007-2015. 

He is currently Head of the Department of Cardiovascular Diseases at the University Hospital Centre Zagreb, President of the Croatian Cardiac Society and Founding Director of the Croatian Heart Foundation. He is the co-founder of the Croatian Primary pCI Network for patients with acute myocardial infarction, Founding director of the Croatian Referral Centre for Heart Failure and Heart Transplantation and Founding Director of the Croatian Referral Centre for Intensive and Acute Cardiology. He is also Vice President of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts.

He has been active in many bodies of the European Society of Cardiology, including the position of a Councillor of the ESC Board 2012-2014. He is a Board Member of HFA-ESC, where he serves as Chair of the Advanced Heart Failure Committee. He is currently the National Representative for the EUROTRANSPLANT Heart and Lung Transplantation Section. He is also the National Coordinator for the specialty of Cardiology and the founding Director of the Postgraduate Course in Cardiology at the University of Zagreb.

Professor Miličić was a Chairman of ten consecutive National Cardiology Congresses and six consecutive ESC Update Meetings, named "Cardiology Highlights". He has been a member of Steering Committee/National Coordinator and Principal Investigator of more than 20 international RCTs. He is the author/co-author of about 300 publications in extenso, with more than 27000 citations, about 700 abstracts, 4 books, 20 articles in international and Croatian textbooks and monographs.

 

Bojan Jelaković, MD, PhD, is a Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Zagreb, Head of the Department of Nephrology, Dialysis and Hypertension at the University Hospital Centre Zagreb, and President of the Croatian Society of Hypertension. 

He is the leading Croatian hypertensiologist and one of the leading European experts and researchers in the field of arterial hypertension. His research on endemic nephropathy has led to the complete clarification of its aetiology and has thus become an important part of Croatian medical history.

Through his scientific and publishing activities and leadership of scientific projects, Professor Jelaković is at the forefront of Croatian clinical medicine and science in general. In 2020, he was elected as a regular member of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts.

He has been a sought-after lecturer all over Europe and the world and a very successful mentor for young scientists and residents. He has published a number of valuable educational texts in important textbooks of internal medicine, nephrology and hypertensiology.
